Sheridan Hills access update

This Waikato farmland crag remains open and the toilet has been moved, thanks to the support of the landowners and volunteer work from the local climbing community.

ACAT and the climbing community thank the landowners Craig and Julie Wards for their continued generosity in welcoming climbers onto their property.

Access requirements

Compliance by climbers has improved after past problems with some groups entering without sending a text. Climbers must text the landowners every time they enter the property – see climbnz.org.nz or thecrag.com for details. Access requirements are also on the sign on the roadside gate.

Sheridan is a working farm, and simple biosecurity measures should be followed to avoid bringing any stock disease onto a farm. Please clean your footwear before and after entering the property.

Lambing is currently underway but the landowners are happy to have climbers on the farm. Please stay away from the animals.

A toilet with a view

Last moved by the landowner in 2018, the toilet had become near-full again and urgently needed moving before summer. Craig generously provided his time and equipment, and with the assistance of local volunteers a new hole was dug, the toilet was relocated over it and secured by posts. A new door will be added soon for those who prefer modesty over the view.

Bolt and anchor maintenance

Bolts, anchors and access lines have been maintained over the years by local climbing shop owner Bryce Martin and local farmer and climber Stephen Shaw. On behalf of the climbing community, ACAT extends a warm thank you to both.
